A photocopier is bought for years, not months, so the wrong size is an expensive mistake. Too small and it breaks under the load. Too big and you pay for speed you never use.
Here is how we size a copier for customers. Our full range is on the copier sales and service page.
A3 or A4
An A3 multifunction copier is the floor-standing machine found in copy shops and larger offices. It handles A3 and A4, big paper trays and heavy daily use. An A4 desktop copier is enough for a small office that never copies drawings or ledgers.
Mono or colour
Black and white copiers cost less to buy and far less per copy. Choose colour only if you actually sell or use colour output: proposals, brochures, drawings. Many offices run one mono copier for volume and a small colour printer for the rest.
Speed and monthly volume
Copier speed is given in pages per minute. Match it to your monthly volume. A machine that is constantly at its limit wears out drums and fusers quickly, and those are the costly parts.
New or refurbished
A refurbished copier from a known range can be good value for a copy shop, as long as it has been serviced and tested and spares are available. The same thinking applies to laptops; see are refurbished laptops worth buying.
Brands to compare
Compare Canon imageRUNNER, Kyocera TASKalfa, Konica Minolta bizhub, Xerox and HP LaserJet MFP models. Check toner yield and local service before price.

Common questions
Is a refurbished copier a good idea?
Yes, for many copy shops and offices, if it has been serviced, tested and comes from a range with spares available.
How often does a copier need service?
It depends on volume. Heavy-use machines need drum, fuser and roller checks more often. A sudden drop in copy quality is the sign to call.
