Refilling a toner cartridge costs a fraction of a new one, which is why most offices in India do it. Done properly, print quality stays the same. Done badly, you get grey pages and toner inside the printer.
We refill on site; details are on the cartridge refilling page.
How refilling works
The cartridge is opened, leftover and waste toner is cleaned out, fresh toner of the right grade is filled, and the cartridge is sealed and tested. The grade matters: toner made for one printer family does not fuse properly in another.
How many times can a cartridge be refilled
The toner is not what wears out. The drum, wiper blade and rollers inside the cartridge do. A cartridge can usually be refilled several times, with these parts replaced when print quality drops.
Signs your cartridge needs more than toner
- Light or faded print even after a refill: worn drum.
- Grey background on the page: worn drum or blade.
- Repeating marks at regular intervals: damaged drum or roller.
- Toner leaking inside the printer: failed seal or blade.
- Cartridge not recognised: the chip needs replacing.
Refill, compatible or original
Original cartridges from HP, Canon or Brother cost the most and need no thought. A good refill gives the lowest cost per page. Ink tank printers such as Epson EcoTank are refilled from bottles; see our consumables guide.
Quick checklist
- Printer and cartridge model number
- Pages printed since last refill
- Any lines, fading or grey background
- Drum and blade condition
- Chip status on newer printers
Common questions
Does refilling damage the printer?
A properly cleaned and sealed refill does not. Problems come from poor-grade toner or a worn drum that should have been replaced.
Is refilled toner print quality as good?
With the correct toner grade and a healthy drum, most users cannot tell the difference on everyday documents.
